Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme about (mostly) books and reading!
This week’s question: Does your current mood affect your reading? Affect your choices? I know there are plenty of books I enjoy, but only if I’m in a particular kind of mood–or books that can lift me out of a bad mood without fail. Surely I’m not alone?
My response: Sorta. I don’t typically read any type of sad, realistic, or depressing book. EVER. (Unless we’re talking dystopian and then I’m all in.)It’s just not my style and I’m NEVER in the mood to read those genres or titles that feature a lot of those elements. I’m always reading fantasy-type books because real-world settings just irritate me- I have enough drama and reality in my own life, thank you very much!
I will admit: every once in awhile I will read a sad book if I need a good cry. It happens very rarely.
On the whole, I have to be in a mood to read certain books but I have completely cut out various types of books from my reading diet because I’m never in the mood to read them. 😉

I do like to choose an eclectic mix, and within those choices, often find books that fit whatever mood I’m in.
I do the opposite of what you’re describing, though, in that I don’t like to read books that are too outside the realm of reality…like vampire books, or urban fantasy.
I have tried them, though…and then gone back to my favorites…lol

I usually stick to what i’m reading at the time, despite my mood.

Haha, I know what you mean with “never in the mood to read them” — same here. I’m so not a sci-fi person, at least not on an adult complicated level. Just thinking it makes me shutter…
I also understand you with the real life setting part. I usually read fantasy to paranormal when it’s YA so the drama doesn’t come off too hard. Most of my Real Life stuff are purely for the smut, so they’re mostly adult titles.
Thanks a lot for stepping by and sharing. Happy reading!

I’m like you, I will basically never read a sad, downer kind of stories. And if I accidentally read one because I don’t realize what’s coming, I hate that I happened across the book! Here’s my BTT response.
